BODY SCAN FAQs

  • Below are guidelines for the ideal preparation before your Body Composition Analysis, however we recognise that not all recommendations may be achievable in every case. To overcome this, we suggest using your first test as a baseline, and test under similar conditions for subsequent tests to enhance accuracy when comparing progress between tests. (eg same clothes, similar testing time in relation to meals and exercise)

    • Food mass is included within your body weight. For this reason we do not recommend eating a heavy meal for 2 hours before your test for best accuracy.

    • Body waste is also included in your weight. We recommend using the bathroom just prior to the test for best accuracy.

    • Strenuous exercise can cause changes in body composition along with an increase in body temperature. Increased body temperature affects the resistance levels of your cells. For accurate results we recommend undertaking your test prior to exercise or when your body has returned to normal rest conditions.

    • Do not take the test after sitting or lying for long periods, as it may cause a slight change in test results due to body water moving to the lower extremities upon standing. Standing for 5 minutes before your test will help regulate this.

    • Do not undertake your test immediately after a hot shower or sauna / steam.

    • Females who plan to test every 4 weeks should aim to schedule their analysis outside of their menstrual cycle. The changes of body water at this time can have a minor effect on results.

    • Avoid having thermogenic supplements in your system on the day of your test as such products may increase your body temperature affecting results.

  • The Body Composition Analysis test itself takes less than 2 minutes. We then explain the results to you so that you fully understand your analysis.

  • No. You will only need to remove your shoes and socks. We recommend that you wear light clothing as clothing weight will be included within your analysis.

  • Yes. Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) uses very minor currents which are completely harmless to the body. The InBody 570 is a registered medical device that is included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods – ARTG Number 207297

There is no radiation involved unlike DEXA / DXA scans.

  • Anyone with a pacemaker or other electrical implantation device should not be tested.

SA Body Analysis will not test pregnant women. Although we are unaware of any evidence that indicates that the testing is harmful to pregnant womenn, we do not advise it for cautionery purposes. In addition, due to the changes in water content in pregnant women, some aspects of the test would be inaccurate.

Persons over 250kg cannot be tested due to weight restrictions. If you are over 200kg but under 250kg please advise us so we can utilise another method of height calculation rather than our digital stadiometer.

  • Yes. SA Body Analysis utilise InBody technology whose segmental analysis method of bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) utilises technology that is protected by over 50 patents across the world.

InBody technology should not be confused with inferior Bio-electrical Impedence devices that use empirical estimation (statistical population data) – in such devices if you change your entered age or gender, you will get different results. With our technology, you can change your age and gender and your results will not change as the InBody measures you and only you. There is no requirement to enter your body type as the InBody accurately determines this without reliance on inputted data.

  • The InBody 570 has 98.4% correlation with DEXA/DXA, a gold standard method in body composition analysis. InBody is radiation free and non-invasive.

By way of example, in a male or female with average body fat, our technology will produce a result with less than 0.5% variance from a DEXA scan.

  • Generally no, the electrical signal sent through the body is too low to detect. Only those with very sensitive tactile sense may feel a very slight tingling sensation.

  • You can either pay securely online when you book your appointment. Or, should you choose to pay on the day, we accept cash, EFTPOS, Visa and Mastercard.

  • This depends on your goals. Generally we recommend getting a scan every 4-8 weeks to monitor progress and ensure you are making positive changes.
